駒は、玉将がO(別名王将っていうからね)、金将がG(ゴールドよ)、銀将がs(シルバーね。
Your suggestions on how to make shogi even more popular worldwide by using letters of the English alphabet, Arabic numerals, and some symbols such as + and - seem very interesting to me.
Yeah, I know it’s been more than three years since this entry dated back on February 10, 2014.
I would say more people are now interested in playing shogi than before because we have a teenage prodigy today, the Japan’s youngest professional shogi player, making a splash in the media these days.
But what if the Japan Shogi Association approves your suggestions?
I believe shogi may become popular even in countries where very few people play the game.
It’s because such more commonly used letters, numbers and symbols would make shogi easier to play among those who are not familiar with Chinese characters.
What’s interesting about the suggestions is that these letters such as “O for 王” and “k for 桂馬” remind me of the periodic table of the chemical elements, like O for oxygen and K for potassium.
Well, not a science wizard myself at all, I have become interested in chemistry lately because of your interesting blog taking up various chemistry-related topics.
Anyway, when it comes to playing shogi, I imagine what it would be like to play the game against a female player.
Me with 玉 and her with 王.
It’s gonna be like she is going after my weak spots like 急所 (one of the frequently used shogi terms) and trying to get my 金 and 玉.
What she wants is my 金玉!?
What a thrilling game!
I know I’m a nerd.
